Racism in Postwar West Germany

Racism in West Germany was a lot less obvious in West Germany.  Since the end of World War II Germany in general was extremely cautious with racism since they had just recently had gotten out of extremely racist regimes.  Due to this it was a lot less overt and often did not attempt to be obvious when they would parody blacks.  During this period many German women were slowly beginning to marry African American GIs which infuriated many Germans beyond all measure.  Due to this they would stereotype blacks, often making them ugly or promiscuous.  This cartoon is a depiction of what many West Germans believed would occur in Negerbars.

West Germans often tried to portray separating blacks from German women as a moral issue.  Their racism mainly stems from their belief on how they defined "Germanness".  This cartoon is a clear depiction of that.  They would often define women who would court blacks as promiscuous and unGerman.

Blacks in West Germany were attacked from both sides in West Germany.  Both West Germany and White American GIs did not want African Americans to go out with white German women or stay in their space.  This comic above is American but does spread the point that both Germans and white Americans did not want African Americans in their space.
